Etihad Rail has unveiled its groundbreaking high-speed, all-electric passenger train that will soon redefine travel between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. This state-of-the-art train, capable of reaching speeds of 350kmph, will slash travel time between the two emirates to just 30 minutes, heralding a new era of sustainable transportation in the UAE.

The high-speed train will pass through six key stations, including Reem Island, Saadiyat, Yas Island, and Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi. In Dubai, it will serve areas near Al Maktoum International Airport and the Al Jaddaf district. Alongside this flagship service, Etihad Rail also plans to introduce a regular passenger train network, offering connectivity across the UAE and beyond.

Infrastructure and Economic Impact

The project’s infrastructure will be developed after completing the tendering process. While no official launch date has been announced, Mohammed Al Shehhi, Chief Projects Officer at Etihad Rail, emphasized its transformative potential. Over the next 50 years, the initiative is expected to contribute a staggering Dh145 billion to the UAE’s GDP, reinforcing the country’s position as a global leader in sustainable development.

Regular-Speed Train: Expanding Connectivity

In addition to the high-speed train, a regular passenger train network will connect all seven emirates, extending to Oman and integrating with the future GCC Railway. This service will travel at speeds of 200kmph, accommodating up to 400 passengers. Stations will be strategically located in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah, with routes passing through Mezeira’a and the scenic Liwa Desert.

Both the high-speed and regular trains underscore Etihad Rail’s commitment to providing eco-friendly, efficient transportation solutions that align with the UAE’s vision for a sustainable future.
